Week 1 - Returning to Studio
This week marks my return to the studio. The first week is always exciting, but also one I dread. I'm often so eager to get started that I would happily skip over the most important parts: going through the briefs, expectations, and initial chats that help set me off in the right direction. There was a moment where i was able to very briefly discuss my initial ideas with my tutor, and i found it really helpful to get some quick feedback. It was positive, and reassured me that there was merit to my ideas.
Although nothing has formally been presented, there is something I've found really interesting when researching my hometown of Stockport. Both L.S. Lowry and Helen Clapcott are artists who have painted Stockport and romanticized its industrial qualities. Lowry, however, painted the industrial scene during its heights, while Clapcott painted during its industrial decline and loss of cityscape. I enjoy both their work, being lucky enough to see Clapcott's work in an exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery over the summer. Stockport, once I may have hated you, but now I know it is home.
